Tom joined DEM in 2020 and brings with him a unique combination of skills, an ability to think laterally, and a passion for building services engineering design and sustainability.
Tom’s strong lateral thinking ability enables him to approach complex engineering challenges from fresh and unique angles. He brings a unique combination of practical construction experience and building analytics expertise; he can diagnose problems, challenge assumptions, and develop solutions others may not immediately see.
Tom has strong skills in HVAC design, particularly in bespoke refurbishment settings and feasibility assessments. He thrives in technically constrained environments; identifying problems at their source and engineering pragmatic, performance-driven solutions tailored specifically to an individual client’s needs. His work often balances innovation with buildability, cost awareness, and long-term operational performance.
Tom’s collaborative mindset ensures his ideas are communicated clearly and integrated effectively within multidisciplinary teams. His focus on sustainability and high-performance design is reinforced by his qualification as a Certified Passive House Designer (2024), further supporting his ability to think holistically about building systems.
