DEM added value by identifying and solving issues very early in the concept phase. This set the project up for a smooth design process. An example of a key innovation that DEM devised was the fire pump room design, which used a passive stack arrangement concealed within the building design to provide fail safe ventilation to the sprinkler pumps. This provides a considerable enhancement to the safety of the occupants and also reduces maintenance. DEM also worked with the fire engineer on several innovations to save core space including the deletion of subducts, which effectively halved the size of the risers for the stair pressurisation relief system.
