Curtin CHW & LTHW Pipe

This project entailed the design of new inground CHW/HW pipe working installed in a stacked arrangement in coordination with existing hydraulics and electrical services.

DEM’s role on this project was both as Lead Design consultant and as Sub consultant for Scoping and Briefing. The project encompassed the design of all new and existing interfacing pipework. DEM managed the design implementation and staging to ensure that loss of heating and cooling to key infrastructure was minimised.

Our feasibility reviews and advice obtained on different pipe materials and installation methodologies led to a design that used newer HDPE and stainless-steel pipe methodologies to simplify the installation.

DEM carried out comprehensive stakeholder reviews and engagement, as well as undertook detailed safety in design and design risk reviews to mitigate risk to both the client and the project. Safety and design risk was managed across all disciplines.

Our comprehensive contract administration support and guidance ensured that the installation and project handover was to an exceptionally high standard.

To best align the project with our client’s values, DEM provided a cost-benefit analysis through the process of Stakeholder engagement. One example of this is the value that Curtin University places on their campus landscaping, including established trees and canopy. Design decisions were made that considered the preservation of established landscape elements as well as monetary cost.

DEM also provided ongoing assistance to Curtin University during the design and installation of this first use of different pipe materials and installation methods. This required educating all project contractors in our client’s preferred direction regarding their inground services.
